Zoryan Institute Calls for New Scholarship Regarding Hidden Armenians Print E-mail

The Zoryan Institute of Canada, Inc. has issued a call for new research regarding the presence of Armenians in Turkey, the nature of Armenian identity, Turkish perceptions of Armenians, and the future of denial of the Armenian Genocide. This comes in the wake of a recent article from Hurriyet Daily News regarding Kurds in Diyarbekir who openly acknowledge and celebrate their Armenian heritage, even though they live as Kurds or Alevis.

The article indicates that 96 years after the Armenian Genocide, Armenian identity is alive in eastern Turkey. It raises vital questions about the political and social evolution of the Republic of Turkey, why are these people coming out into the open now, why do they take the risk knowing what happened to Hrant Dink, the Armenian journalist who raised such issues in the past and was assassinated in 2007.
