Karabakh Foreign Minister Meets With Canadian Officials Print E-mail

TORONTO—Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Foreign Minister Georgi Petrossian, who is on a week-long visit to Canada at the invitation of the Armenian National Committee of Canada, held a number of meetings with representatives of Canadian political circles.

Petrossian held a meeting with Harold Glenn Albrecht, Chairman of the Armenian-Canadian friendship group and Member of Parliament of the Conservative Party of Canada, as well as with other Canadian political figures.

During the meeting the sides discussed the current situation in the Caucasus in the context of the latest world developments. Petrossian also pointed out the unprecedented rate at which Azerbaijan has stepped-up its military capability and rhetoric, which threaten the stability of the region. The foreign minister also stressed that Azerbaijan has lately intensified anti-Armenian propaganda.

On February 18 and 20, Petrossian made keynote addresses at meetings in Toronto and Montreal on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the Karabakh movement. The foreign minister stressed the need for combined efforts by Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and the Diaspora to find an effective solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh situation.
 
In Toronto, Petrossian held meetings with representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, the Armenian Democratic League (Ramkavar Azatakan party) and Social-Democratic Party Hunchakian party, as well as with the ANC Toronto chapter members. The Karabakh foreign minister discussed the latest developments in the Karabakh peace process and issued related to the negotiations.
