ARF Archives - In about a decade after its founding, the ARF made great efforts in organizing the Armenian students in European and Russian universities.
In 1904, an ARF Student Association was founded in Beirut (Lebanon), whose members came mainly from the student body of the American University of Beirut (AUB). Later, this Student Association was called ARF Zavarian Student Association and remains active today.
In the ARF Archives Institute there is a letter signed by the "ARF Student Association of Damascus". It is dated October 25, 1909. Officially, there was no ARF Student Association in Damascus. Interestingly however, we read in the letter that "The ARF Subcommittee - yentagomideh - of Damascus comprised of students of the Faculty of Medecine...". Therefore it is clear that if not officially, at least practically, there was an active ARF student body in Damascus in 1909.
The letter is sent to the ARF Student Association of Europe. It underlines the importance of organizing the students in universities and asks its Euopean counterpart to send copies of the ARF Program and Bylaws. |
